What is the GDPR?
The GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) comes into force on 28 May 2018. It will affect the way you manage the transport, storage and destruction of confidential data within your business.
The regulation affects the processing of individuals’ personal data, including its collection, storage, transfer and use. It gives people more rights about how the rapidly increasing body of information associated with them is collected, handled and stored.
The Cost of Non-Compliance
The penalties for non-compliance with the GDPR are considerable. Data security breaches obviously have an adverse effect on a business’s reputation, competitive advantage and bottom line – they can also lead to fines of up to £20m or 4% of the company’s turnover.
All the more reason to make sure there are no loopholes in the way you deal with and dispose of confidential information.
