Confidentiality is extremely important, meaning it’s integral as a business owner to dispose of any confidential documents that are no longer needed. By ‘dispose of’, we don’t just mean throw away, we mean totally destroyed so there’s no chance of would-be thieves getting their hands on it. 

Many companies fail to take such measures seriously, which is why it’s important for us to inform you why failing to dispose of confidential documents in an effective manner will have severe consequences. 

Risk of Theft

The most obvious risk is the most important; if you do not dispose of your documents, someone will malicious intent could very well steal them. 

Leaving your undisposed confidential documents in a locked drawer may seem secure, but as long as those documents remain intact, there is always a chance of theft.

You’ll be surprised how far some are willing to go to get the information they want. This especially applies to potential fraudsters as they have the time and the patience to sit down and put your document back together piece-by-piece. 

This is why it’s so important to get a proper shredder which cuts your document down to very small and fine pieces, making it difficult for anyone to piece back together again.

Another reason that leaving your confidential documents lying around can lead to disastrous consequences is that you could potentially be violating GDPR.
